# Kildare athletes heading to Community Games national finals Daragh Nolan, 14 Aug Young Kildare athletes represented their county at the Cairn Community Games Regional Finals held in Clonmel Regional Sports Hub last Saturday for a place in the National Community Games Finals taking place later in the month in SETU Carlow. Kildare were joined in Clonmel by Carlow, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow while the other counties of Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Westmeath had their regional finals simultaneously in TUS Campus Athlone. All the competitors had qualified in their respective county events as runners up and the three medal winners will now progress to the Cairn Community Games National Finals in two weeks’ time along with the Gold medal winner from their County Final. 27 superstars from Kildare inspired by events in France made the journey to Clonmel and were rewarded with two gold, five silver and one bronze. Gold: Eabha Brennan Newbridge St Brigids U-16 1500m; Max Crampton Newbridge St Brigids U-14 80m Hurdles. Silver: Ella Murphy Ballymore U-12 600m; Iris McCartan Straffan Ardclough U-14 800m; Matthew Grogan Milltown U-16 1500m; Patrick O’Dowd Eadestown U-10 100m; Ciaran Duffy Suncroft/The Curragh U-8 60m Bronze: Sarah Dillon Suncroft/ The Curragh U-10 60m Hurdles. These athletes will now join Kildare’s Gold medallist in each event and compete at the National finals on 24 August in Carlow.
