Office Space

I just watched Office Space for the first time, and it's awesome. First and foremost, it's 90 minutes or less, which means it automatically gets a giant plus from me. Within those 90 minutes is a smart, funny, and compelling movie that deserves the cult classic status it has.

The script is tight and the characters are immediately likeable. Something I enjoy about watching older movies is seeing famous actors I know now as younger stars. This movie has plenty of them and it was a very nice cherry atop this spectacular sundae.

I also now understand why this movie is so beloved and so heavily meme'd. Between the droning bosses and odd-ball characters, this movie is infinitely quotable. Also, I found the soundtrack didn't make any sense for the characters or, in some cases, what was actually happening in the scene, but I think that peculiarity and juxtaposition worked perfectly.

Between the jokes and quirky characters is a really poignant story about the everyday struggle of the average joe under capitalism. I don't want to drone on with my own in-depth 'analysis' of the themes of this movie, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are half a dozen papers out there with a line-by-line breakdown doing just that. And I think that speaks to how great this movie is.
