Absolutely entrancing and powerful. Sharad Nerulkar couldn't bear to accept the truth. They revealed it near the end that he learned it since he was young from the american collector dude but tucked it away deep throughout his life and left him in that state for the rest of his life. I feel the backdrop of the transition to modernity served perfectly as a _ not because it enhances his flaws and weaknesses but precisely because it is THE reason for the breaking down of the entire culture. I see it this way, the movie succeeds most in a capturing-a-strong- personal-emotion sense by following the path of Nerulkar's life to mediocrity. However, it is about so much more than that; I myself went in expecting a Whiplash style strive for legendary status but am left with the raw reality of the british colonisation of india: new forces much more powerful than any individual's most intense desire and even thousands of years of cultural development.
