# Album #172: Nothing's Shocking By Jane's Addiction (1988) => https://1001albumsgenerator.com/albums/4DVBJPJyizvHfJQt5pYaCa/nothings-shocking on 1001albumsgenerator This is the second Jane's Addiction album to come up, after 'Ritual De Lo Habitual' (⭐). I didn't grow up with Jane's Addiction, and find it hard to get past the vocals. What boosted this album above 'Ritual De Lo Habitual' is how much more experimental it sounds. While the end result might not work for me, it's unpredictable - definitely looking back to earlier 80s hard-rock/metal, but updated, new, and with other influences. I can hear Tool, and I can hear the seeds of the band Oceansize, who took their name from a song on the album. But I'm hearing snatches of things that other people took and made better, between a vocalist I can't stand and disconnected, bitty feeling songs. It feels like the other side of the coin from 'Closer' yesterday (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐). Clearly very influential, and must have been exciting to hear new and fresh. Unlike 'Closer', 'Nothing's Shocking' can't transport me back to that feeling. Where 'Closer' drew me in deeper with every track, I was counting down the tracks until 'Nothing's Shocking' finished. Yesterday I thought I'd struggle with seeing the merit of an influential album without enjoying it and came away feeling like I had learned more about the music it had influence. Today I can so clearly hear the things it influenced and I just want to go and listen to them instead. I'm glad that talented people drew from this to make better things. # Rating ⭐⭐ ______ => / 🏡 Home => ./ 📻 More albums => /about.gmi 🙋 About this project
