It's my first Bowie album! As a bonus, one that I've maybe listened to only once before. "Low" I know much better, and this one follows the same pattern as before. Where Low has the incredible "Sound and Vision", this has "Heroes", a definite contender for one of Bowie's best. That's a long list though.

Wikipedia breathlessly says:

> The majority of the tracks were composed on the spot in the studio, the lyrics not being written until Bowie stood in front of the microphone.

By the fifth time Bowie sings 'Joe the Lion, made of Iron', you can see some hints of that. It's not that the song doesn't have interesting lyrics - just that they're sometimes a little stretched out feeling. But it's Bowie, so it's interesting even when some of the elements aren't working so well. Like "Low", it ends with some Eno tracks that clearly stand apart from the rest of the album, but as with "Low" that works. It does accentuate the feeling that this is more of a collection of EPs than a full album, and given the rate he was churning out albums at the time, perhaps some editing would have worked. If you like Bowie though, as I do, it's good that editing didn't happen.

It could have been edited out of the list though. He has 9 albums on the list. That feels like a lot even for some one who tried as many styles across as many decades with as many collaborators as he did.
