Sombre is a good word to describe this, and it's one that a lot of the reviews on the 1001albums site use. I'm not against sombre, but this is melodramatically sombre. It evokes a mood, and I don't mind that mood, but musically and lyrically the parts that jump out don't stand out for good reasons.

I've like other Nick Cave stuff I've heard more than this. I realise he has many different modes. This mode: I do not like.
