The dominant sound the album is going for is Soul. Not every song fits exactly, but the ones that don't borrow so many elements that even the tracks that aren't exactly Soul feel like they sit well alongside those that do. I'm not familiar enough with her back catalog to know if she was doing soul before being 'in Miami', and what with all the Northern Soul, it's not totally unbelievable, but it feels odd having a Brit sing Soul. But it mostly works. Her voice on this album is exceptional. 

The only let down is that there are real peaks and troughs of song quality. The lows aren't all that low, but there are some forgettable tracks scattered throughout.
