Randomly getting this so close to Run DMC's Raising Hell is a fun coincidence. In the deluxe edition of that album is a track of Run DMC recording radio announcements & tour date reads, and on that they mention Beastie Boys as the support act. It was good to come in to this with that perspective rather than the much easier 'Licensed to Ill is just ripping off Raising Hell' - really, they're two bands being produced by the same label at the same time doing mostly the same thing?

Like with Raising Hell, I didn't really enjoy revisiting this era. Licensed to Ill is full of classic tracks, some overplayed and some great to revisit. This time it was a younger me who chose to play it too much. I can see why it's on a list of albums people must hear. I've been there and done that and I've moved on to other Beastie albums that hold up better, but wouldn't want to tell someone else not to bother.
