The Pet Shop Boys mix together genres I don't care or and occasionally come up with gold. Very feels like exactly what I'd have expected from a Pet Shop Boys album before listening to any - occasionally catchy, sentimental, danceable pop. 

I expected the huge single 'Go West' to stick out like a sore thumb, but the album quality as a whole builds with every song, so by the time Go West hits you're *ready* for it. Albums that end on a high are great - so many run out of steam. Not this one.

## Tangential review: Tetris (2023)
Coincidentally last night I watched the Tetris film, which prominently features 'Opportunities' by The Pet Shop Boys. Which gives me the.. opportunity... to comment on the film. Tetris aspires to accuracy in the same way as Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. The truth is move boring than fiction, so why not use the facts as a skeleton for something else? Weird pulls it off better. Weird Al's 'Fat' being the inspiration for Michael Jackson's 'Bad' is so clearly a joke that it welcomes the audience in to the world where that is true - it really seems to want to pitch the story that licensing Tetris brought down the Iron Curtain? Maybe that's just a problem if you're already familiar with the story. It's certainly more interesting than real contract negotiations would be.

Accuracy aside, it's so laden with CG that nothing has any weight at all. Not just obvious things, like the moving background with a car, or an array of soviet tanks, but almost every set appears to be largely green screen. It manages to look cheap, but also look and sound expensive all at once. 

It takes some stylistic choices that are novel in a mainstream film, it covers gaming a light that is a nice change of pace, but mostly it's just a background for a spy caper. I wouldn't suggest anyone watch it, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from watching it either.
