A "proposal" discussion on changing the OSM data model to make it friendlier to processing.
One of the arguments against it is that changing the model would be a huge amount of work, possibly even backwards-incompatible, which would only affect the "big dogs" that do processing on the OSM data.
But that is not the case. If processing can be made more accessible to anyone with a moderate computer, the data is easier to use for everyone. It would open a lot of possibilities for developers, researchers, &c.
On top of that, these performance improvements would mean energy savings as well -- a plus for everyone.
