Hello Gophers!
The telephone issue mentioned in my last phlog has been solved. I bought
a GrandStream HT801 (about 50 euros), connected it up and pointed it at my SIP
provider on a non-standard port (5080 in lieu of 5060). It works perfectly.
Simple setup if you know where to look (Really oodles and oodles of settings
possible) and seems very reliable after a couple of days of use.
I am very happy that I found a way around the petty blocking of port 5060 by
my new ISP. I am not at all happy with their behaviour, but at least I am
able to work around the issues. The internet provisioning seems stable at least
but that is really the least I would expect from them.
Lesson learned: If you switch to another ISP, make sure you read the specs of
the connection and the provided hardware.. It could be crippled and not what
you expect to get.
Have a nice one!
Cheers,
Fripster
