[@tomasino](https://tilde.zone/@tomasino) It seems Vultr does paddle back on
this after the reddit outrage:

<https://www.theregister.com/2024/03/28/vultr_content_controversy/>;

They said this whole paragraph, that caused the outrage was taken out of
context without regarding the last sentence: "for purposes of providing the
services to you."

I'm not sure if they'll completely delete this passage or what they'll do, I
think this is not yet clear at the moment.

[@lampsofgold](https://veoh.social/@lampsofgold) Yes, these are the common
problems. But I always like to hear about people setting up their own mail
server. I don't care about google and apple anyway. There should be more
privately hosted email servers for families or small groups. I'm not sure what
will happen, if google shuts down gmail but it will have a huge impact to the
email world and I don't want email to be completely replaced by instant
messageing. So the more email servers the better! And if someone has a
google/apple/outlook address which doesn't accept my email, I don't care. They
should be avoided anyway.

[@lampsofgold](https://veoh.social/@lampsofgold) Ok, can't help you with such
a setup. My email server runs completely on a VPS. No proxy setup and I don't
know how to build such.

[@lampsofgold](https://veoh.social/@lampsofgold) You could try MailCow:

<https://mailcow.email/>;

The most important thing to note is, that you need a static IP address which
resolves back to the hostname. You can't just host email from home. You should
rent a VPS with at least 8GB RAM for MailCow.

Or you could try Luke Smith's email wizard, which I didn't check out myself,
but it's much lighter on resources, because it doesn't need docker (AFAIK):

<https://github.com/LukeSmithxyz/emailwiz>;

These are the easiest ways to set up an email server I know of.
