Why Gemini?
I love Gemini, the heavier-than-Gopher, lighter-than-the-Web protocol.
Why?
- The Gemini community produces smart, idiosyncratic content — the kind of little surprises that brought such joy to the early Web.
- Gemini's pragmatic, minimalist, privacy-conscious design philosophy makes the protocol resistant to centralized/monopolistic control.
Google's current dominance of the Web makes me extremely nervous. The modern Web's complexity puts creation of a competitive, secure browser out of reach of individuals or non-corporate groups. Firefox gives scant assurance, since the Mozilla Foundation receives all their funding from Google, and the goals of the Foundation do not align exactly with the needs of Firefox.

Gemini's simplicity lets a lone developer build and maintain a high-quality client.
