Alex Schroeder talks about email posting styles [0]. I have used
mutt for years and in the past bottom-posted. Now I usually don't
bother, since no one else does. If I am conversing with someone I
_know_ will bottom-post, that is fine, I do it. Those people are
rare.
But I do like his suggestion of starting with a blank email reply,
and adding context by paraphrasing. It's more work for both parties,
but seems worthwhile if you can get the person or persons on the
other end to follow suit. It's interesting that this very style of
replying to phlog posts is similar. Start with an empty post, add
context and links manually as needed.
Speaking of email, I finally was able to get Micro$oft to lift the
block on my mail server IP [1], only to have it mysteriously appear
a few weeks later. It's a never-ending battle, and their support
never did tell me why the original block was there to begin with.
