|Olympia Lightning Bolt would be the coolest name ever if she competed in

|There's the famous story of a father naming his children Winner and
|Loser. I don't think using your children for life long psychological
|experiments is a great idea, but that's besides the point. Winner

|No one’s contesting that but if she wants to be a runner- she’ll
|face pressure. She’ll have to deal with the idea of disappointing
|people if she ends up in last place while bearing that name.
|u/gwaydms - 1 month
|
|It doesn't matter what name they give her. She'll face pressure
|as a runner just being Usain Bolt's child.
|u/Useful_Language2040 - 1 month
|
|In fairness, competitive running - or any sport - is generally

|u/jawndell - 1 month
|
|I’m sure they may have been some genetic freak that had the
|right physical build and innate ability to be naturally better
|than Bolt, but I doubt anyone with those abilities had the
|proper training he did.  Just the science of what type of
|training and development had gotten better over time.
|u/melkipersr - 1 month
|
|Oh yes, I have zero doubt that it is true. It's just not a

|u/barath_s - 1 month
|
|The 100m world record speed is *faster* than the 50m world record,
|https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_metres Perhaps because of time
|taken at start to react and accelerate ?
|u/Schuben - 1 month
|
|What do you mean by *faster*? You mean the top speed achieved? If
|so, then yes it is because they generally don't reach their top
|speed until after the 50m mark, with Bolt reaching it somewhere
|between 60 and 70m. It could also be a selective pressure on the
|50m race to have runners who accelerate faster but might not get
|to as high of to speeds because it isn't as useful in a shorter
|race. If you extend this idea to absurd limits, a 5m race would
|favor the "runner" with the fastest reaction times and most
|explosive start, with almost no consideration for their top speed.
|100m selects well for top speed without the constraint of
|endurance and the 400m is a good mix of speed and endurance and
|you start to see people catching up to the leader at the end of
|the race that you don't see as much in shorter races.
|u/PonchoHung - 1 month
|
|Usain's own 200m time tracks down proportionally to 9.595, barely
|off the 100m world record. Perhaps 150m is really the fastest
|event we've all been waiting for.
|u/DRsAndCRs - 1 month

|u/OneBigBug - 1 month
|
|Not as a correction, because I know everyone understands what we're
|talking about, but I want to inject an asterisk here: >The fastest
|man ever in the history of all humans.\* \*"Without using
|technology other than the considerable technology put into running
|shoes" "Under human power" would be 144km/h in a crazy velomobile.
|"Fastest human ever (relative to the surface of the Earth)" would be
|the crew of Apollo 10, 39,937.7 km/h There may also be an argument
|for "under human power" and "without the aid of technology", and
|maybe even "while running" being someone who was falling from
|something really high up, actually...

|- Thunder (to stay on theme I guess?). They are all named after
|him/something related to him/his career.
|u/ShoddyPerformer - 1 month
|
|I see, that explains even more why I don't really like them. I think
|children should be given names that entirely belong to themselves.
|I've never liked names that are "Jr" or "the 2nd" either.
|u/youlooksmelly - 1 month
|
|I don’t really get it, every person is named what their parents
|want them to be called. No one is given a name just for them
|because most people have a reason for naming their kid what they
|name them, most of us are likely names after a relative for
|instance. Having a name just for you would mean your parents
|coming up with a new name no one uses, but that would be even
|dumber than naming your kid Lightning Bolt
|u/ShoddyPerformer - 1 month
|
|It's about giving children a name they can call their own. That
|doesn't mean their name needs to be unique among society, it
|means it should be unique among the family. >most of us are
|likely names after a relative for instance I really don't think
|this is true. >every person is named what their parents want
|them to be called Of course parents are calling kids what they
|want to name them, however, most parents put thought into giving
|their child a name that **compliments** the child, not the
|parent themselves or something related to the parent. For
|example, it's like naming your child Leo, in reference to them
|being strong and powerful for being born, vs naming your child
|Ben Jr because your name is Ben. Another example, my parents
|named me something music related because I have a beautiful
|voice. However, if I was a boy, I would've been named after a
|*car*. Because my dad likes cars...I'm glad I'm not a boy.

|need for other people to take him seriously. You already won a zillion
|medals and you were the world's fastest man, maybe pump the brakes on
