|diacritics are just modifiers of the base letters. Unlike

|going to bed as early as possible so I could wake up at 5AM to catch
|the two episodes of Inuyasha before it would roll into morning Cartoon
|Network. I’ll never forget my dad starting to do early shifts, and
|finding me on the couch utterly confused why I was up and then it
|became our morning ritual before he’d go to work. He was working three
|jobs at the time and he usually came home when I was asleep so for
|like 2 years that was the only time I got to see him all day. I don’t
|even think he liked Inuyasha or anime like he does now, he just was
|happy to spend an hour with me before going to work

|In many ways Akira is less culturally relevant now than even 10
|years ago. Probably the biggest ones are the big 3 (but their impact
|has severely dismissed) to Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul which
|have impacted more of the current generation

|young people have actually *seen* Seven Samurai doesn't diminish
|its importance or influence over modern cinema. Those young people

|influenced by that movie. Same goes for Akira, it's DNA is in all
|modern anime.

|things, though. dj kool herc influenced *all of rap,* but ain’t
|nobody knows who that mf is. cultural impact and relevance are
|not the same thing, so when asking someone to pick what comes to
|mind first, it’s going to be relevance over some show that maybe
|a handful of current watchers have even heard about. remember,
|the number of anime watchers when akira was popular is a baby
|fraction of anime watchers today. not to mention, even akira’s
|cultural impact is negligible these days compared to other
|things. very few anime are “akira-esque,” but there’s a ton that
|are “dragonball-esque.” at one point it was impactful, now faded
|in obscurity. such is the way of most media. everyone knows “red
|guy on motorcycle.” but, in that same note, everyone knows
|“goku.” very clear divide in impact and a lasting influence.

|It’s literally not even canon, like they took the anime in a
|completely different direction. In the manga Kaneki starts
|his own anti-Aogiri/CCG group, the animation studio said
|“fuck that let’s have Kaneki join up with Aogiri instead”
|and removed all his interactions with his group from the
|manga. They wanted to lean into the edgy Kaneki angle so
|hard they had the MC join up with the main villains
|organization, which obviously doesn’t work very well. It’s
|not like he did to be a spy or a guy on the inside or
|anything, no he literally just joins them.
