What is a small, everyday thing, that makes your life, personally, a
living hell?

|
|Pain In essence it's a small thing, but when it's chronic pain you
|better believe it turns your life into a living hell
|u/raspberriijam - 1 month
|
|This. It’s crazy to me that other people’s pain scale actually
|reaches zero most of the time, i’m not sure i’ve ever experienced
|that.
|u/maximdenbeer - 1 month
|
|This used to be me back in the day. I did international competitive
|kickboxing in my free time.. at one Point i broke someones toes
|with my nose. Pain was just something i hardly felth... Until i
|descovered nerve pains.. in the past 5 years, Ive not had a single
|day without pain.. and yes they give you lots of painkillers for it
|(altough for nerve pain that's not to effective either), but all of
|those are addictive.. so either live in pain or become An addict
|and suffer liver and kidney damage over time.. take your pick
|u/raspberriijam - 1 month
|
|Ugh that’s terrible.
|u/Fabulous_Donut26 - 1 month
|
|I had some meds prescribed that had a side effect of “euphoria.”
|They made me feel great and like I could do anything. It was
|terrifying. Felt like mania. I think that’s what it feels like to
|be pain free.
|u/Traditional-Hat-952 - 1 month
|
|I used to be not in pain and the only pain I would experience would
|be my own damn fault (drinking too much, biting my tongue, stubbing
|my toe, etc). Now I just have nerve, tendon and joint pain all over.
|I miss being able to fully be absorbed in something. I miss being
|able to laugh. I miss being able to just get up and go somewhere
|without contemplating how my body will pay for it later. I miss not
|having to take handfuls of medication.  I miss who I used to be.
|u/maximdenbeer - 1 month
|
|And... A good night sleep...  Even with meds, i wake up after a
|few hours, in pain .. and no Longer able to fall asleep. Then we
|have An extra long day to enjoy nerve pains.  I can relate, and i
|hope you'll eventually find something that Helps a bit
|u/comicsnerd - 1 month
|
|Yup. My body hurts 24x7 for as long as I remember. Sometimes a
|little, sometimes a lot, rarely not at all (about 1 morning per year)
|but most of the time just not enough to use painkillers
|u/wet-leg - 1 month
|
|Then when you try to talk about it you get hit with the “do you think
|it’s all in your head at this point?” um no sarah I have a condition

|I just finished a three day hike, and I want to thank mosquitoes
|personally. Without them it would have been a five day hike. As long
|as you are in mosquito country you need to walk slightly faster than
|mosquitos can accurately track you. Great motivation

|If you have an out door area say a patio or deck that you want to
|keep mosquito free (or at least reduce the quantity) you can get a
|box fan with a screen on it. They aren't the best flyers so the air
|current sucks them in and holds them against the fan. Spray them
|with rubbing alcohol and it will kill them. You can place an open
|bottle of seltzer water near the fan. The CO2 will attract them to
|it. https://youtu.be/FEsQ4_KiBWQ?si=WCpNjICU2AJJ07Bt&t=27

|The first time mom told me that I said I can't reach the peanut

|u/Koolaidguy541 - 1 month

|I love that. It would have been so easy for her, just like a
|lot of parents, to say "eat it anyway even though you hate
|it" but instead she taught you to be independent and be
|responsible for your own choices. As a dad myself, I hope I'm
|making similarly positive experiences for my kids. I try to

|I absolutely detest coming up with meal ideas and so I decided to
|meal plan ahead. The problem is that it's a "pick your poison"
|situation where I have to choose between making an annoying decision
|every single day, or making a bunch of annoying decisions at once.
|People often daydream about what they would do if they hit the
|lottery. Fuck expensive cars or jewelry. I would just use my wealth
|to eat out every day or hire a private chef.
|u/TwirlerGirl - 1 month
|
|My husband and I finally decided to order pre-made meals from
|Factor and a local company called Fitlife instead of cooking
|dinner. When we get bored of the meal options, we switch companies
|or pause for a few weeks. Being able to both order the meals we
|want and preparing those meals in the microwave for 2 minutes (and
|with minimal dishes to clean afterwards) has been a huge stress
|reliever and not much more of an expense than what we used to spend
|on weekly dinner ingredients. My husband still does grocery trips
|for drinks, snacks, cheese, fresh fruit, etc. but it's so much
|easier than shopping, planning, and cooking full meals. I'm not
|sure if it'd be a viable long-term option for families with kids
|though.

|I’ve been a chef for almost 20 years. Everyone always says to my
|wife “damn, you just eat so well at home”. My favourite stuff to
|cook at home is chicken fingers and curly fries. 😂 I’d say about
|half the time I put a decent effort into dinner but the other half
|not so much. Thankfully my wife is a great cook and loves doing it,
|so she takes care of dinners a lot also.
|u/sburbanite - 1 month
|
|It’s hard when you do something like that for a living, or do it
|for others regularly, because then you don’t have energy for it
|when you get home. When I was a nanny, my capacity to want to do
|chores and cook at home for *myself* plummeted, and I’m still
|burnt out from it now. I love to write, but now that I have to
|write emails, draft comprehensive procedures, and other
|miscellaneous things all day every day, I barely have the mental
|bandwidth to write poetry or start the book I’ve been planning to
|write for years. I love to read, but because I spend hours at
|work trying to interpret and teach myself legal jargon to see if
|a contract holds up (I don’t have that kind of training, still
|expected to do it 🙃) my brain gets static when I try to start a
|new series. I swear to god it takes every bone in my body to not
|just sleep and watch Netflix and ignore all of my household
|responsibilities. When the things you love are compulsory, it

|On tiny slips of paper write down 10-15 meals (or more!) that are
|different enough that it keeps things interesting but may share
|ingredients. Keep the recipes on hand. Then when meals
|planning/grocery planning, pull out as many as you can buy/plan/prep

|Being the lazy punk I am, I use cookbooks, YouTube and other web
|resources to get ideas. Here is 89 recipes:
|dinner-recipes/ It takes effort. I never said it was easy. If
|you have some winners keep those and try something new once a
|week, or shit once a month. If you and the kids like it, add it.
|It takes some work over time but eventually it gets easier
|because you can have a list of things everyone likes. I loved
|when my mom asked what I wanted to eat or asked me to help with
|food because it made me feel like an adult, it gave me skills in
|the kitchen and then we could talk about nutrition. I wish you
|luck with your family and cooking!
|u/Viper01MHC - 1 month

|This is a funny thread because this is exactly what my wife deals
|with (main thread). I have told her for years to just make a list
|or write down everything we have for like a month. Then we can just
|look at the compiled list and point to something that sounds good.
|But instead we get the daily question and we (me and our 3 kids)
|can literally never come up with anything. I usually answer with
|“what are the options”. I know it’s not exactly helpful but I don’t
|know what we have in the house to make. And, yet, somehow my saint
|of a wife manages to make dinner for us every night.
|u/Dysan27 - 1 month

|Make a rut. Mondays it's A, Tuesdays is B, Wednesdays is C. if you

|I menu plan a lot (I do it for work as well, so it's hard to turn off
|sometimes). That said, I sometimes struggle to come up with one or
|two meal ideas each week (I do all the cooking). When my wife (she
|is extremely indecisive) and I were dating, we struggled with this
|issue quite a bit. We started a list of all the meals in my
|repertoire and numbered them. When we struggle with landing on an
|idea for dinner, we just use a random number generator and go with
|whatever meal has the corresponding number.
|u/jhev1 - 1 month
|
|I came up with somewhat a solution to this. It does require a little
|planning but makes dinner fun! Have everyone in the family get
|together and write down dinner ideas on popsicle sticks. Then wrap
|the popsicle sticks in painters tape, put them all in a jar and have
|someone pick out what's for dinner. The planning is you probably
|have to pull at least the day before so you have time to shop. You
|can even pull for the week and then your meal plan/shopping for the
|week is set.

|based bots that generate a reaction to the title like

|I agree. So many resources saved with remote jobs: office space,
|gas for travel, the company doesn't have to pay to rent a space or
|utilities for said space. Then people are only devoting their 8

|My commute was an hour in the morning because I got on the road at 5
|am. In the afternoon I left early to avoid the rush hour, but since
|it's Atlanta, it was an hour and a half to four hours. It was also
|stressful because I saw so many accidents. I knew it was only a
|matter of time before I was in one. I had some close calls, but I'm
|the three years I worked there I didn't have one. Getting laid off
|was one of the best things that has happened to me. That in itself
|was stressful. But about a month later I had three offers; all of
|them remote. I've been at my current job for over three years now.
|I've never been to the office. Working from home has it's challenges,
|but compared to that commute, and all the lost time, it's wonderful.

|Old people cant stand not having a captive audience for their
|social terrorism, so now I have to work in a gray and white shit

|funny part is it costs these companies more if they dont own the

|You're actually not wrong about that. We are librarians and I
|generally work with the older population. 90% of my job is
|being an ear for them lol. I love my house, but I know i would
|not actually do any work at home. I often enjoy leaving just
|for the change of atmosphere. And a library is such a nice
|atmosphere to be in at least. I have always had a public facing
|position though, my coworker went from being in the secluded

|It’s absurd, once I got my first decent paying remote job, I promised
|myself I’d never go back to the office again. I understand
|circumstances may force it at some point, but I’m tailoring my skill
|set and résumé to mainly target cloud startups. Small companies
|realize how ridiculous of an expense an office building is when
|literally all of your infrastructure is in a data center states away,
|there’s no micro management, and most of these guys want to sell
|their company one day so having a physical location severely limits
|your potential customer base. Pre-pandemic the owners and sales guys
|still used to fly around for big meetings and the like, but it seems
|like most everyone realized how much of a waste that was and even
|that’s remote now for the most part. I’m lucky I started my career in
|this space, but it’s never too late to pivot if you can find
|something that fits your salary / benefits needs and you have the
|skills for.

|My vape. The technology is great, vaping used to be like having a tin
|man following you around continually needing care. Now the problem is
|they are small and easy to lose, we have all seen the memes about it,
|and if you vape, you live it everyday. Losing my vape feels like what
|I imagine losing my child in a large crowd would feel. Immediate panic.
|I was just washing dishes and brought out the garbage. Is my vape in
|the dishwasher? Is it in a garbage bag full of slop? No, it was just
|under that fold of a blanket. People who vape will know that
|eventually the heating element will die out and the vape starts tasting
|like shit, spitting hot eliquid at your tongue and just generally
|working like shit. But we "hate vape" it until it is empty. We aren't
|going to throw away the days worth of eliquid we put in. We are just
|going to hate vape all day until it's empty and we can replace the
|heating element. I'm glad I don't smell like smoke or cough up black
|shit anymore. But the vape comes with its own dangers and annoyances.
