|It's unbelievable She's clearly ill She's has to be the worst case
|of Dunning Kruger in history. The upside of this latest appearance
|though is that she's predicting Trump wins in November. If anything
|is going to sink him, Truss's judgement will What I think is
|disturbing though is that 113 of her colleagues voted for her as

|u/suomikim - 1 month
|
|i hadn't realized there was a reverse side to Dunning Kruger... i
|used to do strategy and analysis work... and when my bosses would
|praise my work, I'd be confused and annoyed. since i figured that
|anything that i was able to do, they could get any random person
|off the street and get the same or better quality product. one of
|the things that i worked on (with another person) was strategic
|planning for dealing with pandemics. the impetus was the then
|current bird flu pandemic... so we were developing a strategy to
|deal with the \*next one\*. (you can develop an operational plan
|to deal with a current situation... but not a strategy.
|obviously) anyway, a decade or so later when Covid came out... I
|waited for my old government to roll out a plan based on the
|strategy we wrote. unfortunately, due to politics, they... only
|seemed to have used parts of it to develop their strategy... and
|more or less made things up as they went along. most countries
|did... no better. Sweden did much worse. Overall, I wound up
|with a rather dim view of whatever idiots had wrote the plans and
|strategies in each country, and even less for those who executed
|(or failed to execute such plans). my... earlier belief that any
|random idiot could write a good Pandemic strategy/plan/operation
|plan was... quite wrong.
|u/Starfox-sf - 1 month
|
|Take the worst part of your work, combine it with other people’s
|worst parts, and et voila, you have the final “plan”. That’s how
|it usually works, right?
|u/suomikim - 1 month
|
|plans are developed from strategic documents. and then actual
|operational plans from the "middle" plans. there... might be
|a thing where from strategy to operations the... abilities of
|the people working on it are of a different quantum... and
|some of the people at the political level putting in their
|fingers never read any of the strategy documents (really a
|prerequisite for a politician trying to insert themselves into
|things). But yeah, i remember once being in the room where an
|operations plan was being written and I wanted to kms while
|they were arguing something stupid. it \*did\* feel like they
|were putting together the worst ideas of the various people in
|the room. most of the people outranked me, but at a certain
|point of them arguing, i said that i had enough, and that they
|needed a break to refocus. while they... probably talked guy
|stuff, i wrote the section from scratch (took an hour or so),
|and when we reconvened put my proposed rewrite on the screen.
|It wasn't great (in my opinion it was quite mediocre as I had
|focused on only part of the thing as my own responsibility of
|the group project). but what it wasn't was dog poop. So they
|just did silent nod, and approved it as written. So yeah...
|at the level closest to execution, the process is... less than
|one might desire. sometimes a lot less.

|u/FreakingScience - 1 month
|
|Despite the overregulation of accessibility in the UK, lettuce
|is not qualified to hold public office as it can't complete
|the ordainment ritual which is kicked off with the toss and
|catching of a processional replica known as a Steel of Avalon,
|which must be thrown to the inaugurant from a lake which
|contains at least a pint of water from the catcher's home
|region, poured from a sheep's bladder. The problem isn't that
|lettuce has no arms with which to catch the sword, because
|that's absurd. It's that an archaic 400 year old English law
|from the Anglo-Spanish war prevents a non-native public
|official from gaining or losing that office over Spanish (or
|Dutch) waters, and most British lettuce is imported from
|Spain.

|As usual it is much easier to blame the front figure than the

|
|Most people still don't understand (not consciously, at least)
|that economics is an ideologically-driven field of study. It's
|worse than politics because people generally understand that
|politics is a partisan affair.
|u/C0wabungaaa - 1 month
|
|That used to be perfectly normal, economics being tied to
|political ideology. That was perfectly understood in the 18th
|and 19th century, even during a part of the 20th century.
|Economics was as much a philosophical endeavour as it was a
|practical tool. But then a bunch of mid-century weirdos came
|along and were like "No see it's not political or ideological
|at all it's an exact science. Trust me bro see we have
|**numbers** woah aren't they cleeeaaan and peeeerfect? Just
|trust me bro here look at that **graph** woah it goes up just
|trust me it's great." And we've been slowly transitioning into
|a wrecked world ever since. My most frustrating thing about
|the history of economics as a science, human or exact, is just
|how much it confidently posits an image of human nature,
|practically as fact, and then builds its entire thesis around
|that. And this without absolutely zero real knowledge about
|how people actually operate. It's the worst. Economics
|shouldn't just be understood as ideology-driven, it should
|also be understood as fundamentally tied to psychology and
|sociology.

|Yes! In nz, during covid, our health minister mixed up his terms and

|u/USeaMoose - 1 month
|
|Eh, Trump does steamroll through attempts to deflate him, but not
|by laughing at it and carrying on. Trump can't laugh at something
|that is insulting him. He ignores it, or he attributes it to the
|deep state and the "fake new media" being out to get him. Trump
|would not embrace the humor of him misspeaking. He can barely even
|admit to ever making a mistake. He can't chuckle at a picture of a
|vegetable meant to mock him, he would play dumb about it until it
|is pointed out, then he would get angry and attack back. Boris
|Johnson portrayed himself as a harmless goofball. With his messy
|hair, and general attitude. Trump wants himself to be portrayed as
|nothing less than a "stable genius". The best at everything. With
|the biggest crowds, the best ideas... everything. Boris and Trump
|did seem similar in some ways, this is just not one of them.
|Frankly, Trump would be an easier pill to swallow if he had the
|ability to laugh at himself even just a little bit. Honestly, I'm
|not sure how much different Trump would have acted here. Would he
|really allow himself to be filmed talking with a backdrop that was
|making fun of him? I'd expect Trump to delay the start of the

|One thing that I actually do appreciate about Trump is that he functions
|as a societal litmus test. I learned of a word while watching reruns of
|*The West Wing* and its shibboleth. >shibboleth: a word or saying used
|by adherents of a party, sect, or belief and usually regarded by others
|as empty of real meaning Someone can easily say “I don’t support Trump”
|and they could be lying in order to save face with friends, family and
|colleagues. But, when they openly say, “I support Trump” they are
|admitting to the world the type of person they are. In some instances I
|could see a child lying to their parent about supporting Trump just to
|prevent a lecture, but in open conversation there’s little to no benefit
|to admitting this stance, so it’s likelihood of being true is almost
|perfect. I find this level of quick receiving of knowledge about a
|person to be very effective in telling me whether I want to continue in
|a relationship with them. Before, I’d get a feeling a person might be an
|asshole, but maybe it’s just a bad day. Sometimes they are fine. With
|someone willingly saying they are Trump supporter I am no longer in
|doubt as to whether they are good person that has the occasional bad
|day. Now I know this person is a perpetual asshole and I no longer have
|to think whether I won’t to continue communicating with them. It’s a
|quick and easy way to filter out people that might otherwise be tricked
|into thinking they can be trusted. So, for that, I appreciate Trump

|Liz.....you'll only get speaking engagements if you embrace the whole
|"total shithouse of a PM" gimmick. No ones paying to hear you talk about
|how to do shit well.

|At least when James Acaster got cabbaged, he got a comedy bit out of it.

|I’m a bit OOTL. I remember her being generally awful, but what does the

|Our senior politicians seem to lack a thick skin and a sense of humour
|these days. It was a harmless prank and I don’t blame her for still
|being sore about what happened when she was PM but she could have
|handled this better.
|u/JustCopyingOthers - 1 month
|
|What's more disturbing is that she blamed the prank on “far-left
|activists” who used the stunt as a means to “intimidate people and
|suppress free speech” I can understand that she wants to move on and
|there's little to be gained by continuing to bring it up, but she just
|perpetuates her situation with statements like that.

|I would love to know the reason why the queen chose her.
|u/SlyScorpion - 1 month

|Because it's a ceremonial formality. The monarch can't really reject a
|PM without causing a constitutional crisis AFAIK.

|Would the left act the same if the right did it? Sure, if it was just a
|banner. They usually show up with guns though, so....
|u/poxtart - 1 month
|
|The right generally do not have the wit to do something like this. As
|you alluded, the right would rather just threaten and bully people.
|u/RedofPaw - 1 month
|
|The right do show up with guns. Indeed it was a registered Republican
|gun lover who shot at trump. But then again, ridicule, calling out
|how weird they are, seems to be doing a good job against republicans
|so I say ridicule is the correct approach.
|u/Slaan - 1 month

|And you see no difference in a prank vs showing up with guns?
