|Yep my legs looked just like this after I got a bad burn in Cancun
|this year. Stayed under an umbrella for 4 hours and thought I’d be
|safe, had to fly out that night. Worst flight of my life and the next
|few weeks weren’t fun either
|u/Certifiedpoocleaner - 1 month

|I learned a really valuable lesson last year in Mexico. And it’s
|actually stupid that I didn’t learn it sooner. But I learned that if
|I am going to be doing something that prevents me from being able to
|reapply my spf 70 every 60-90 minutes, then I need to be wearing sun
|protective clothing. I was on a snorkel boat and while I applied
|before we left, we weren’t allowed to reapply after that. Luckily it
|was my last day there but I missed dinner that night because I was
|crying in bed with a literal fever. And the healing process was even
|worse.

|>I was on a snorkel boat and while I applied before we left, we

|
|W found out ahead of time that you can’t reapply when
|snorkelling in Mexico, so the whole family bought long sleeved
|rash guards with SPF. Wrote we went. No burn at all from
|snorkelling. Definitely worth it.

|I too got burnt under one of those leafy umbrellas on a beach in
|Mexico, the sun does not fuck around out there. It gave me shin

|dampened the holiday. I resorted to being a creature of the night

|I do now. The times I was sunburned to blisters both
|happened when I was under 10 years old. I avoid the sun so

|my vitamin d levels were what he'd expect in Iceland, in the

|They can provide pain meds and prophylactic antibiotics to

|Treat it as a serious burn like you might get from an expectedly
|hot object like an oven or pan (or anything else hot you
|accidently might press your arm or leg against). Except it's
|over a large part of your body. Specifically your legs, which
|while being super meaty usually and a large part of your
|bodyweight, also house major arteries that work to transmit
|blood (which helps regulate body temp, send white blood cells
|for recovery, and just in general keeps all your bits alive).

|Day 1:: skin is super sensitive. Probably have a fever and flu

|I think...I think you actually do need to go to the ER, yeah. I think
|they might be able to give you some pretty strong burn cream with some
|numbing agent for the pain. Do not use the vinegar and brown paper bag
|method. Do not soak your legs in water. Do not get in a bath or shower,
|regardless of water temp. Do not put on ANY form of lotion or
|moisturizer even if it says it contains Aloe Vera. Do not do anything
|except and until you go to the ER. Your skin actually looks more akin to
|mild chemical burns or close to 2nd degree burn damage. If you try to
|treat it at home with at home methods WITHOUT consulting a doctor or
|nurse who has seen it, you could really fuck up your skin. I'm talking
|mad nasty infection, potentially necrotic skin if not properly treated,
|and an actual potential in losing your legs if you let it sit and fester
|with no professional medical care. I have never wanted to actually
|force someone to go to the ER so much in my life, lmao. PLEASE MAN.

|u/LeEnfantSamedi - 1 month
|
|1- DOCTOR. Def need to see a doctor to get fluids and antibiotics
|started...and prob something to kill the inflammation and antihistamine
|reaction. 2- DRINK LOTS. Pedialyte, Gatorade, or SmartWater. Something
|with electrolytes. You've lost lots of body hydration and need to try
|and regain it as best you can! 3- Do NOT use Aloe Vera gel or
|ointment. It contains alcohol which at this degree of burn is just going
|to burn like a mother fucker and dry your skin out...which it NEEDS that
|moisture. Use a 1:1 ratio of witch hazel and water. Use a face cloth as
|a compress. Witch hazel will actually stop the burn from advancing more
|(since your skin won't stop cooking itself even once outside the sun).
|It helps with pain, heat, inflammation, and can even help avoid the
|blisters from becoming extremely bad (I doubt they can be conpletely
|avoided with this level of a burn, tho) and can also help cut your
|healing time down. My fam learned this several years ago with a burn
|that bubbled up within a day. Called a medical hotline and was told to
|use the witch hazel. We've used it to treat all our burns now, whether
|from the sun, stove, hot pan... it really honestly works! But most
|importantly you really need to see a doctor since it's a rather large
|portion of your body and honestly looks a whole lot worse than what we
|dealt with - which was bad enough where my partner had a major fever,
|was in extreme amount of pain and that it left permanent scars over the

|Been there done that. And then the second day got worse. 3rd day with me

|Thank you for this comment. Seriously. I'm in my 30s and EXTREMELY
|fair skinned. I also have a deathly fear of sunburn. I was unaware how
|dangerous reflected UV was until I googled it just now, and I could
|absolutely see myself taking a terrible burn in the future for lack of
|this knowledge.

|OP, these are second and third degree burns. You need an injection of
|antibiotic and steroid, and treatment by a dermatologist. I did this
|when I was 18 and fell asleep on the beach. My skin was purple.

|Another nurse here. Former ER. This is very bad. Wow. That is going to
|blister. That is a VERY large area to have open, weeping wounds. Major
|infection and fluid loss. I just cannot get over the redness.
