|Last time I asked this question, the consensus was a few things. * |
|
|
|
|Foresters/outbacks aren't sports cars. The XT variants are quick, but |
|
|
|
|they're meant to be subtle in styling compared to the WRX. Most buyers |
|
|
|
|didn't want the hood scoop on their family car, apparently. * The |
|
|
|
|ducting from the air dam to the TMIC provides the same cooling effect |
|
|
|
|with a lower drag coefficient, which improves fuel economy. Mum and dad |
|
|
|
|buyers care about this. * The hood scoop has a mild impact on |
|
|
|
|visibility, which is a bigger deal for the taller car. Subaru put a lot |
|
|
|
|of work in to make visibility excellent. The quarter glass windows in |
|
|
|
|the Forester are an absolute stand out when you test drive other SUVs |
|
|
|
|

|I've driven SAAB and Audi B5 platform cars all of my life. All the |
|
|
|
|SAABs and the 2 Audis have excellent field of views both forwards, |
|
|
|
|sides and backwards. Both Subarus currently a 2019 impreza and the |
|
|
|
|2024 Outback XT have huge blind spots from the side rear to the rear |
|
|
|
|quarters. The days of being able to see where the front of the car |
|
|
|
|sweeps away seems to be over. I'm fairly tall and I can not see |
|
|
|
|where the front hood ends. So not sure where high visibility and |
|
|
|
|style co exist. Guessing where the front left and right quarters |
|
|
|
|seems to be more the logic. Having a camera upfront like the Obw or |
|
|
|
|on the xt touring should be a normal feature. |
|

|Oh I'm not asking why they don't, I was more wondering about the |
|
|
|
|impact it has. I assume it has a negative impact just because the |
|
|
|
|stock duct is larger and has a higher inlet pressure thanks to the air |
|
|
|
|damn. |

|You'd need to find someone with a dyno that has tested scoop vs |
|
|
|
|ducting. I'm sure that person exists but I've not seen any info for |
|
|
|
|the Forester. What I can tell you is that if you search NACA ducts |
|
|
|
|vs hood scoops, you'll find other models of car arguing about this |
|
|
|
|topic. I don't know if the method used for the ducting on the |
|
|
|
|Forster counts is a NACA duct, but the concept is similar. |
|
|

|I have a scooped fiberglass hood on my 15 forester. Love it. I'm |
|
|
|
|convinced it helps with heat soak a bit since it vents at slow speeds. |
|
|
|
|Also still have the stock internal scoop to work woth it. Considering |
|
|
|
|using the internal scoop to mount a remote oil cooler or something haha. |
|
|
|
|I hate that they got rid of scoops for turbo subies like the xt |
|
|

|I feel like you get this effect when there are two light sources |
|
|
|
|coming from both sides of the car and the dark spot is where the |
|
|
|
|shadows overlap. |
