Question to all the #indiedev #gamedev folks out there: How the heck do you stay committed to a project?I've started literal dozens of projects in the last year and finished virtually zero of them. Gamedev is hard for a reason, but for me it primarily feels difficult simply because I don't have the discipline to follow through.By some magic circumstance, I got into running this year and have been trying to take some of that success and apply it to gamedev, with little (but still some) success. Other thing that help somewhat are jotting down notes and organizing ideas, pomodoro, choosing project ideas that are smaller in scope, game jams, etc. |

@CareLevelZero Good advice! The hard part for me is making the habit to work on *one* game. The (bad) habit I've trained myself to do is open the game engine in general...and then start a new project every so often.I'm going to try actually putting it into my schedule, which is something I've always felt was too much, but never really tried. That way it is what it is and there's less wiggle room. |

@Be_Sheep I love note-taking apps! I use Obsidian personally and definitely have a few places for jotting down random ideas for games, comics, and other stuff I do.Notes can be hit or miss for me though. The moment I start to "organize" a project it becomes a chore to me and I lose interest. I feel like that would be helpful in the midst of a project though, to have a roadmap for what to work on and that kind of stuff. Knowing what to work on is half the battle for me, because I hate the feeling of opening the project and not knowing what to do. |

@piddlesworth @Be_Sheep That reminds me of this website I stumbled upon a while ago:https://20_games_challenge.gitlab.io/My problem is that I know how to make games on a technical level, so I tend to see those tiny projects as "pointless" (even though they're not). Genuinely might try this again soon, or just make a really slick/polished but ultra simple game, for the reasons you said -- associating finishing with success and pleasure. Honestly just being able to put a thing up on Itch feels good, which I've done, but I tend to treat as a dumping ground for half-baked projects instead of fully finished ones. |

@CareLevelZero Yeah...I've had that thought many times. I feel like it's just the milder manifestation of a mid-life crisis. Totally normal and expected but still there nonetheless. |

I'm really proud of the Arctic Polygon comic coming out in a couple weeks. Not this Sunday's but the next. I just redid the dialogue, might have overcooked it a *little* bit...but I don't care too much about that. I almost want to rearrange the queue so it's this Sunday, but it can wait. |

I should come back to this project. Of all the ones I've made this year, this one feels the most polished and like a real game.I also have a strong desire to start it all from scratch...which might not be such a bad thing? At least I can re-use the player assets and animations and shader stuff fairly easily. I also kind of want to trim the scope back a bit and make it a level-based puzzler instead of a metroidvania.Which to be fair, it never actually was, aside from the fact you can travel between levels and things persist. But that was also a big source of "stress" for me because of all the complexity and inevitable playtesting. |

Social media takes our inability to engage with nuance and amplifies it. Sometimes I wonder what the solution is, if any. It comes down to our brains and tribalism, so any solution is just mitigating that. We're just not built to have a tribe of 8 billion. Or a few hundred million, even. It's more like...a couple dozen. As in 24. Any more than that and you need society and a bunch of rules to handle our monkey brains. |

@irfan Never underestimate the power of spite lol.Or in this case, probably do underestimate it, because there's zero chance it becomes better than the main repo in any way. |

I recently rediscovered that it's much easier to get veggies / leafy greens in your diet if you just blend them up into a smoothie. I don't know why this hadn't occurred to me. |

I gave my cat a string and I think she's addicted to it. Three times now I've tired her out, left the room, and the string has been brought unto me once more.Literally as I wrote this she jumped onto my desk with it. |

Sometimes I think about the longterm game when it comes to genAI and misinformation.Say there comes a point it's literally impossible for even extremely sophisticated software to determine an image/audio/video is artificial. In such a scenario, there is nothing that can be trusted except what you observe in the real world. Obviously that's still somewhat the case now, but to a lesser degree. We can still have some trust in institutions to put out real information, but I feel like it might be a losing battle. This all assumes the arms race between genAI and genAI detection is won by the former, of course. I don't know enough about either tech to usefully predict the long-term outcome. |

I've been cooking...What exactly, I don't know, but I refactored a previous #godot project and thought it would be cool to really lean into the "TV" aesthetic and display the world on a 3D surface. So far I've really just created a motion sickness simulator...but it is kinda neat. |

One idea I've had is to have ways to "escape" the screen and enter other electronic devices. Like maybe you jump out of the TV into a gameboy and the whole style changes. Or into a radio and the gameplay suddenly becomes entirely auditory somehow. This is how scope creep happens. |
