I have been using unix-like systems for about 20 years. But I never
heard about the .netrc file. It's manual page says: "The file .netrc
is an ASCII file containing login and initialization information used
by the ftp auto-login process".

This is probably obsolete and too insecure approach. But inside my
closed network I can use this thing to make my life a bit easier.
