$4 MEDICATIONS
(Posted 2011-09-14 16:41:06 by ArchPaladin)

I learned today that both Walmart [

PDF] and Target [

[target.com] offer through their pharmacies a $4 medication program.

For $4 you can get a 30-day supply of many generic medications, including
some basic antibiotics. The program is meant to help with indigent people
- those for whom proper healthcare seems to be a luxury.

I had no idea something like this existed. While I'm not a big fan of
big-box stores, I have to applaud them for their public health efforts and
desire to make medicine available to people of all economic classes.

I do wonder weather or not there is any education provided about the
dangers of misusing antibiotics or other medications. Allegedly your first
time getting these medications you have to show up in person. I wonder if
any patient education goes on during those periods. I wonder also if
people listen. Otherwise, while they may be offering a good public
service, they would also be doing a large public harm.
