Currently, Notepad exists in versions for Microsoft Windows |
|
|
|
operating systems. However, due to numerous user requests |
|
|
|
from around the world, Microsoft corporation has begun |
|
|
|
developing versions of Notepad for Unix, Macintosh, |
|
|
|
and OS/2 systems! |

However, not everyone is happy with Notepad's triumphant |
|
|
|
march across the planet. For example, Corel corporation, |
|
|
|
which is trying to compete with Notepad by offering its |
|
|
|
clunky WordPerfect program, recently filed a lawsuit |
|
|
|
against Microsoft. Instead of honestly competing and |
|
|
|
improving their product, they accused Notepad creators |
|
|
|
of violating antitrust laws. They claim that Notepad |
|
|
|
is so integrated into the Windows system that it cannot |
|
|
|
be uninstalled without affecting the overall functionality |
|
|
|
of the system. Additionally, the plaintiff demands the |
|
|
|
removal of Notepad from the MS Windows package, |
|
|
|
as it allegedly deprives users of the choice between |
|
|
|
products from other companies. Of course, all of this |
|
|
|
is blatant lies and slander! |

Shortly before the official release of Windows 98, |
|
|
|
Microsoft corporation held a grand presentation of the |
|
|
|
new version of Notepad. The innovations in Notepad 98 |
|
|
|
are truly revolutionary: |

- More convenient file handling |
|
|
|
- The new default file is now called "Untitled" instead |
|
|
|
of "Unnamed". |
|
|
|
- Customizable font settings |
|
|
|
- Finally! Now you can change the default font that |
|
|
|
Notepad uses to display text. |

- Improved help system |
|
|
|
- Notepad's help system is now in the new popular HTML-Help |
|
|
|
format. It has become even easier to answer the numerous |
|

- The file size limit is 64(!) kilobytes(!!!). In modern |
|
|
|
computer systems, files of larger size are almost |

non-existent. |

- The number of simultaneously open files is 1 (one). |
|
|
|
Do not get distracted by minor details to the detriment |
|
|
|
of the main task! |

- Super user-friendly interface |

- No toolbars or "hotkeys" for common commands like |

"File-Open" and "File-Save". The status bar - such luxury |
|
|
|
is also not provided. Everything is for the user's benefit! |

However, the less needed "Replace" function is not |

|
|
included. |
